Notarial Services — Buzi Law

Notarial Services

Documents witnessed properly, without the wait.

Overview

Notarizations, commissioning, certified copies and statutory declarations.

Notarial work is quick, but it is not casual — a document notarized incorrectly is often rejected by the authority it was prepared for, usually at the worst possible moment. We handle notarizations and commissioning promptly, and we check that what you are signing will be accepted where you are sending it.

When to call

Any of these apply?

If one of these is true, the conversation is worth having now rather than after the next step is taken.

  • A form says 'sworn before a commissioner'
  • An institution abroad wants a notarised copy
  • You are travelling with a child without the other parent
  • A pension or insurer wants proof of life or identity
  • A university wants certified copies of transcripts
  • You need to invite a relative to visit Canada

What we handle

The work, specifically.

01

Notarization of documents

Witnessing signatures and affixing the notarial seal for use in Canada and abroad.

02

Commissioning of affidavits

Administering oaths and affirmations on affidavits and sworn statements.

03

Certified true copies

Certified copies of passports, diplomas, identity documents and contracts.

04

Statutory declarations

Preparing and commissioning declarations for government, insurer and institutional requirements.

05

Travel consent letters

Consent to travel letters for children travelling with one parent or a third party.

06

Invitation and support letters

Letters of invitation and declarations of support for visitor applications.

Who we act for

The people on this file.

01

Individuals

Travel consent, invitation letters, statutory declarations, certified copies of identity documents.

02

Newcomers and families abroad

Documents destined for a foreign authority, prepared so they survive authentication and legalisation.

03

Businesses

Corporate certifications, sworn statements and certified copies for lenders, registries and foreign counterparties.

How it runs

From first call to closed file.

01

Tell us where it is going

The receiving authority decides the wording and the form of certification. Knowing that first avoids a rejected document.

02

Bring the right things

Valid government photo identification, the complete unsigned document, and every party who has to sign.

03

Sign in front of us

The oath is administered or the signature witnessed, and the notarial seal is affixed.

04

Onward authentication

Where the document is going abroad, we tell you the Global Affairs Canada and consular steps that follow.

Fees

What this costs

Notarial work is charged per document, with a reduced rate for additional documents signed in the same appointment. Preparing a statutory declaration or travel consent letter from scratch is quoted separately from witnessing it. You will be told the total when you book.

Questions

Answered plainly.

Commissioning is administering an oath — you swear the contents are true. Notarizing certifies the authenticity of a signature or a copy. Many documents need one specifically, and using the wrong one is the most common reason a document comes back.

Valid government-issued photo identification, the complete unsigned document, and any other party who must sign. Do not sign in advance — the signature has to be witnessed.

Often it also needs authentication and legalisation — through Global Affairs Canada and then the destination country's consulate. Ask the receiving authority what they require and tell us, so the notarial wording matches.

Most notarial work is completed the same day, and routine items in a single short appointment.

Not as a witnessed signature — the point of the exercise is that the signing happens in front of the notary. Bring it unsigned. A certified true copy is different and can be done from an original you already hold.

We can certify signatures and copies of documents in another language, but we cannot swear to the contents of a document we cannot read. Where the receiving authority needs the contents attested, a certified translation is required first.
